Childhood, being part of life, is full of stress-whether it's failing a math test or losing your dad to divorce. Used in hospitals, schools, and clinical settings, this easy-to-administer program helps preschool and elementary age children handle the stress of daily life. Based on substantial research, it presents more than 60 "scripts" that can be used to help children relax, calm down after conflict, reduce test anxiety, concentrate, use their imaginations, and improve performance. These involve breathing, muscle relaxation, music, self-esteem activities, and creative exercises. Also included are an introductory letter to parents, ideas for teacher inservice, and student questionnaires and evaluation forms.
A companion audio cassette and CD present 14 calming exercises, using music, breathing, muscle relaxation, and active imagination to release tension. These can be used prior to anxiety-producing events, at bedtime, or any time stress reduction is needed.
"What a wonderful, caring, thoughtful, research-based program on reducing anxiety in children." Dave Olson, M.D. Family Practice
